Planning the Journey

Jean and I are planning another two-lane road trip beginning in July. This is our hobby together. In 2001, we did our first trip; the entire of length of Route 66 from Michigan Ave in Chicago to the Will Rogers marker in Santa Monica, CA. That was followed by Route 50 from San Francisco to Winchester, VA; Route 2 from the the beginning of the Mississippi River in Itaska, MN to Seattle; and various small trips including the Pacific Coast Highway, Mississippi River Road, Skyline Drive, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. In addition we've driven to the tops of Pikes Peak in Colorado and Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. All these trips were done in either our Alfa Romeo spider (hence the blog title) or Audi TT. We sold the TT a couple years ago, trading precision German engineering for Italian romance and a live rear axle. This year we're planning Champaign, IL to Rushmore to Grand Teton/Yellowstone to Portland, OR. Then down the PCH again to LA, across to Scottsdale, AZ, where we'll meet up with our kids at The Sanctuary (our favorite resort), then back to Champaign through NM, TX, OK, and Memphis.
